Residential Counselor

St. Luke’s House Inc., is a community based Psychiatric Rehabilitation Agency, serving adults diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness. Our mission is to help people live, learn and work successfully in their communities by offering integrated mental health services and community resources. We are located in Montgomery County, Maryland and have been providing outpatient mental health services since 1971.

Our Residential Program provides therapeutic supportive services in a residential setting. Programs are developed according to client needs and choices. Residential staff offer on site counseling, helping clients develop and accomplish Individualized Rehabilitation Goals, and assisting them in dealing with the pressures and challenges of daily life.

If you are exploring a career within Psychiatric Rehabilitation and want to help people manage, overcome and reach their maximum potential, you may want to consider a position within our Residential Rehabilitation Program. You would be given the following responsibilities:

Residential Rehabilitation:
Assist and instruct clients in residential living skills such as menu planning, shopping, cleaning, budgeting and participating in leisure and therapeutic activities. Counselors must also provide counseling, behavior management and crisis intervention as well as monitor medication to insure compliance with medical instruction.

Community Counseling Services:
Assess client needs, develop goals and resources and coordinate client services including quarterly provider meetings with the Vocational and Life Skills Program.

Administrative/Facilities Duties:
Maintain and submit client records, reports and forms. Assist with maintenance of facilities to comply with licensing and contractual requirements and in keeping general cleanliness standards. Initiate and participate with other staff and residents to upgrade the facility to maintain SLH and community standards.

Team Responsibilities:
Participate in weekly case consultations and staff meetings. Help develop positive relationships with neighbors and the community. Be involved in and contribute to program and administrative projects, meetings, committees, training and tasks as assigned.

All interested individuals need to have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as: Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or Rehabilitation Counseling. (Related experience may be substituted for a degree; however related experience must represent a total of at least four years. Previous experience working with Psychiatric Rehabilitation is preferred but not required.

Candidates need to have their own vehicle with no more than 2 points on the driving record as part of the responsibilities is transporting clients when required by individual treatment plans.
