About The Program

The St. Luke's House Back to Work Program is a supported employment program that currently serves approximately 440 clients per year. This program helps people recovering from mental illness choose, find and keep a job. Clients of the Back to Work program have employment rates three to four times the national average. St. Luke's House participates in the national movement of evidenced-based practices and is the largest mental health supported employment program in the state of Maryland. The core principles of this practice include: Eligibility based on consumer choice, supported employment is integrated with treatment, competitive employment is the goal, job search starts soon after a consumer expresses interest in working, follow along supports are continuous benefits counseling and consumer preference are important.

St. Luke's House has strong beliefs in individual interests, abilities, and self determination. The Back to Work Program provides career planning, work based assessments, job placement, job coaching and ongoing support. Back to Work services include, Job Search Classes, Mock interviews and Job Keep support groups.

Employment Specialists work with candidates to successfully match each person to the appropriate job and continue to support the employer/employee relationship as long as necessary. The supported employment staff works closely with all other providers, client's natural support system, business mentors and employers to coordinate services and successful outcomes for the client with focus on promoting independence, continuity of care, skill development, job acquisition and retention. Staff also provide technical assistance and on-the-job support to the employers on reasonable accommodations and/or how to access tax credits and deductions.

Back To Work Program clients are employed with over 200 Montgomery County employers. The Program works in partnership with Maryland State Division of Rehabilitation Services and Montgomery Works to provide the best quality of services to participants and the business community.
