About Us

Welcome from the CEO . . . .

As the new President/CEO I am pleased to welcome you to our website and to report on the success and well-being of St. Luke’s House.

Started in 1971, the mission initially was to serve the needs of individuals coming out of state psychiatric hospitals with no place to go.  St. Luke’s House encompasses 29 houses, one residential crisis center, clinic, life skills classes, and a nationally recognized vocational rehabilitation program.  We continuously strive for improvement and to uphold best practices in the field of mental health.  St. Luke’s House is committed to using Evidence-Based Practices, which are proven to be the best support for client’s recovery.  In 2010 St. Luke’s House provided psychiatric and vocational rehabilitation services to more than 1400 individuals with serious and persistent mental illness in Montgomery County.

St. Luke’s House turned forty this year.  Our clients celebrated this significant accomplishment by establishing their recovery goals, acknowledging their strengths, using their support network, developing strategies to manage their symptoms, building skills to live independently and obtaining employment.  This celebration has been happening every day for the last forty years.  Having worked at St. Luke’s House for 28 years, it has been a privilege to witness the recovery of so many people who have experienced so many hardships.  The combined efforts of our staff, clients and our community volunteers make St. Luke’s House a special place.

We are proud of the dedication of our staff and their many contributions to our agency’s financial strength, excellent reputation, and continued growth.  Our efforts have raised public awareness of an ever increasing mental health issue.  We actively advocate for those who need treatment and would otherwise not be heard.

St. Luke’s House values its community partners, both County and State, as well as other non-profits.  We greatly appreciate the support of many businesses, foundations, churches, and individuals.  We are devoted to the concept that recovery is possible and that it requires a multi-dimensional approach which includes the involvement of the community as a whole.

I look forward to serving as St. Luke’s House President/CEO.  Sincerely, Larry Abramson
